Charleston, South Carolina is a city with innumerable cultural and artistic influences—from theatre and festivals to historic and cultural institutions. Formerly a Grand Bohemian hotel, Hotel Operis celebrates the drama, artistic influences, and performance culture that have drawn global audiences to Charleston for years.

Cooper House led the renaming, repositioning and comprehensive rebrand of Hotel Operis, drawn from the Latin opus meaning “work” or “artwork.” The project includes brand strategy and positioning, naming, a new visual and verbal identity, extensive guest-facing collateral and touchpoints, and hospitality consulting.

We’ve developed this rebrand in close dialogue with the hotel ownership and operators, drawing from the building’s distinctive architecture and interiors to create an identity that feels inseparable from its setting. The goal is an in-depth, customized hospitality experience that feels distinctly of Charleston while establishing a clear and ownable point of view within the city’s crowded boutique hotel landscape.

The result is a foundational brand strategy that informs every detail of the guest’s stay—including interactive and improvisational collateral on property and live performances in the hotel’s social spaces.
