Skirvin Hotel

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
overview
A Legacy Reimagined

The year was 1911. Oil boomed, Oklahoma City thrived, and William B. Skirvin opened his namesake hotel as the city’s grandest address. Built in the Classical Revival style with Art Deco influences throughout, Skirvin became a gathering place for the most prestigious of guests: presidents, performers, dignitaries, politicians, and more.

More than a century later, Cooper House helped usher Skirvin into its next era. Our work began with a deep dive of the hotel’s history, cataloging every logo, advertisement, and graphic artifact from days past. This visual archive became the foundation for a new brand identity—one that honors Skirvin’s history while reimagining a vibrant future.

The new Skirvin mark draws from the hotel’s strongest and most enduring symbols. Designed to feel both classic and contemporary, it’s built for longevity—a legacy mark rendered in a fresh way. This identity comes through in each aspect of the guest experience, ensuring guests see, touch, and feel Skirvin’s prominence at every turn.

Our team designed Skirvin’s custom vanity website to complement Hilton’s digital platform from a more story-driven perspective. Through immersive imagery and narrative design, the site highlights the hotel’s history, personality, and sense of place—inviting guests to steep themselves in history, even before they arrive.

From The Tattler (a custom newspaper chronicling Skirvin’s storied past) to branded guest gifts and storytelling moments throughout the property, we worked closely with ownership to extend the brand through a number of tangible, multisensory touchpoints.

A new, year-round uniform program was also developed for all staff—front and back of house—reflecting Skirvin’s stature as Oklahoma City’s most iconic hotel. The uniform collection balances elegance and function, creating a high-caliber, unified look across the property.

Beyond developing custom artwork for each guest room, Cooper House designed a cohesive suite of in-room materials—including door hangers, keycards, and dining menus—that extend the hotel’s narrative into every guest touchpoint. Each element was crafted to feel uniquely Skirvin, blending historic character with contemporary design to create a seamless, story-driven experience.

Drawing directly from the building’s 1911 architecture, Cooper House illustrated a catalog of motifs derived from its original trims and decorative details. These hand-drawn patterns became the foundation for environmental and print applications, and also inspired the custom carpet design in the lobby and event spaces by Leo A Daly. The result is a self-referential visual language—one that honors the building’s heritage.
